Ainol is not a brand you are likely to have come across, it is from China. The Ainol NOVO 7 Elf II is manufactured by the China company, Ainol Electronics. The company is quite prolific in China, and it launched its own brand of digital products.

With a High Definition 5-point multi-touch, 7-inch capacitive touchscreen, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), initial impressions on the specifications front are very interesting. The hardware has its positive points too. The processor runs super fast Cortex A9 dual-core 1.5GHz. The 7-inch screen has a relatively high 1024 X 600 pixel resolution. The capacitive touchscreen is mostly very responsive to your fingers. Memory is on the good side at 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage, you do get a microSD card slot to help with storage capacity for media and apps.

There is a built-in 2.0MP camera on the front of the chassis (The Ainol NOVO 7 Paladin omitted this.). That is good for taking pictures or video chat via Skype over Wi-Fi. The built-in Wi-Fi is available.

With support for 1080P Full HD video playback, the tablet is a useful tool for watching video on the go. There is an HDMI port on the edge of the chassis (cable not included), HDMI connection allows you to send output to a suitably equipped external device such as an HDTV, and watch videos on your TV in High Definition. The Ainol NOVO 7 Paladin also omitted this.

Ports and connectors on the left edge include a headphone jack, an HDMI output, a mini USB, a microSD card slot (supports up to 32GB), and a microphone.

Ainol has equipped NOVO 7 Elf II with dedicated 400MHz 3G Graphics processor, so it will play the latest games with vivid colours. The ubiquitous Angry Birds is here, along with a couple of social networks, including Facebook and Twitter. On top of that, this tablet PC supports Flash 11.1, providing excellent Flash experience for web-browsing.

The 3700mAh battery will get about 5 hours of normal use on a single charge, about average for a tablet.

There are also YouTube, Gmail, Google Play, along with multi-language support, including English, French, Italian, Spanish, Deutsch, Cestina, Arabic, Simplified/Traditional Chinese.

Overall, the Ainol NOVO 7 Elf II is a seven-inch Ice Cream Sandwich tablet PC with nice hardware and some welcome software additions. The NOVO 7 Elf II is not especially thin but looks nice. It is a good start for the price, if you want to experience Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich. This Android tablet PC combines power, performance and style into a package that is both practical and appealing.
