Ainol Novo 7 Tornados 7-Inch Android 4.0 Tablet PC ReviewAs the number of Android tablets keeps going up and up, it seems that the latest Android device is also becoming a more prevalent feature on tablets. Recent figure show that Ice Cream Sandwich is now being widely used in Android tablet PCs. Manufacturers have been following suit, and many have revealed when they plan to push the Android 4.0 update on to their devices. Ainol has promised an imminent update to ICS on many of their devices.

The Ainol Novo 7 Tornados 7-Inch Android 4.0 Tablet PC is yet another entrant into the budget tablet arena. Ainol has managed to give the Novo 7 Tornados a 1GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, so the tablet can handle a certain level of multitasking, and it also support Flash 11.1. Watching embedded video is no problem at all. Alternatively, there are 8GB and 16GB of built-in storage, and you can easily add more via a TF card and up to 32GB as well. There is a front-facing camera on the Novo 7 Tornados for video calling. The 0.3MP camera on the front will not make you look your best during video chats, but is a useful addition all the same.

Ainol Novo 7 Tornados 7-Inch Android 4.0 Tablet PC ReviewThe seven-inch screen is generously sized considering this is a budget tablet. It is not fantastic in bright lighting conditions, but is above par for the price. The screen is large and that means viewing video, looking at websites and reading text are relatively comfortable experiences. The visible angle is 160°, and the screen is reasonably responsive to the touch.

The device runs Android 4.0.3 at launch. Fortunately, one of the joys of being an Android user is that you can customise your tablet and make it your own. Android is the only platform that explicitly states which permissions and what data an app will be using. The Android Market is also included. You do get access to the Play store, so can add as many apps as you want.

Ainol Novo 7 Tornados 7-Inch Android 4.0 Tablet PC ReviewWhat is stunning about the Novo 7 Tornados is that it looks like a premium device. Ainol has put a lot of effort into the physical design which is a nice plastic shell, and has a fresh look with white colour, or has a metallic look with black colour, despite the fact that it is made from plastic. The tablet comes in at under 0.5-inch thick, and is reasonably light to hold as well. The consequence of the thinness, however, is a small battery which seriously under-delivers.

There is no button on the front, but a good range of ports and buttons. All the ports and buttons are located on the edges of the tablet including volume rocker, TF card slot, mini USB port, microphone, and headphone jack. The battery life is the one area where a budget device is guaranteed to fall down, and the Novo 7 Tornados is no different. It claimed at five hours, but you can burn through a full charge in less than four hours of continuous heavy use, and with the requirement for a proprietary charger it does not make the Tornados the most mobile of products.

Ainol Novo 7 Tornados 7-Inch Android 4.0 Tablet PC ReviewA decent display and good formats support make the Tornados handy for video, music, photo, and eBook. Other features include built in Wi-Fi, external 3G support, but GPS and Bluetooth are absent.

Overall, the Ainol Novo 7 Tornados 7-Inch Android 4.0 Tablet PC has got the balance of features about right. It looks and feels more expensive than it is, and that alone makes it an appealing device in these times. It is a budget device for casual use like web browsing, viewing video, sending emails, playing music, and reading eBooks. If you want to play powerful game, get Novo 7 Aurora .
