The Lenovo Ideapad A1 Tablet PC is an Android powered tablet PC, the device runs Android 2.3 operating system, with full Flash support and instant synching.
On top of that, there is no denying that the build quality is outstanding. Compared to Kindle Fire And Nook Tablet, the Lenovo Ideapad A1 is the winner here, it gives you Bluetooth connectivity, microSD card slot, GPS, dual cameras and microphone. The Kindle Fire does not give you these essential features, and it offers less memory for only 8GB.
Powered by ARM (Cortex A8) 1GHz single core processor, and 512MB RAM, with a 7-inch, 1024×600 pixel display. There is nothing groundbreaking here. The 3MP camera is not quite the Lenovo’s best. There is a front camera for video calling, but it is only 0.3MP. It is better than no camera at all.
The 7-inch capacitive multi-touch display with a high resolution, making it great for web browsing and video viewing on the go.
There is the usual array of Wi-Fi supports, Lenovo App Shop, and Android Market for easy access to an impressive number of apps.
This affordable mobile entertainment device provides over 10 preloaded apps. The 7-inch capacitive touchscreen is excellent at this price point, it works smoothly. With just 0.5-inch thick, the Ideapad A1 weighs only 14.1 oz (400g), which is light enough to use it anywhere on the go.
Elsewhere you get 16GB of internal storage plus a microSD card reader for additional storage, and a micro-USB connector.
Overall, this Ideapad A1 rates well as a multimedia device for Android users with limited budget. Android market is accessible from this device out of the box. While it is single core, the performance is fast. If the above features are what you want, buy this tablet PC. This tablet is great for an affordable price.
Pros:
You get dual cameras, a 3.1MP rear camera, and the front facing camera for video chat via Google Talk. Google Talk works flawless. Skype does not work for video calls.
There is built in GPS and Google maps, you can add Google maps via the Android Market. The GPS works great.
You can install both Kindle and Barnes & Noble, making the A1 a great compact eReader.
Playing movies is smooth.
The Wi-Fi is smooth and fast for checking email, web browsing, and watching Netflix.
Blue¬tooth is available.
The speaker is mono, not stereo, but the sound is loud and reasonably powerful.
The built-in 16GB stor¬age is huge and eas¬ily expand¬able up to 32GB via microSD cards.
Runs Android 2.3 (Gin¬ger¬bread), with access to Google Play. The app store is fully functional i.e. Angry Birds Pandora are great.
There is a microSD card slot, and mini USB port for fast dig¬i¬tal video, audio and data transfer.
You can charge the battery via USB port. The cable is included.
Cons:
There is no 3G option.
There is no HDMI
The tablet runs a single-core processor, however the performance is fast for most tasks.
The physical buttons at the bottom are very frustrating.
Conclusion:
The Lenovo Ideapad A1 is very affordable at below $200, you get pretty much the same, or better, specs than the Kindle Fire and Nook Color, however you get access to the full Android Market or Google Play including the Kindle Reader app. It is an excellent option for a small and affordable tablet. It is a budget device that can accomplish basic tasks you throw at it. It is a nice tablet for the price, and highly recommended.
