Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller has released Nook Color, the first full-color touch Reader’s Tablet. This popular tablet has been designed for people who love to read everything in rich, beautiful color.
Nook Color provides easy-to-use and immersive digital reading experience, which makes it easy to read what you love, anywhere you like and have fun. The tablet allows you to have access to Barnes & Noble’s NOOKbook Store, and enjoy more than two million digital titles, as well as enjoy content across a wide selection of popular devices.
Nook Color features a vivid 7-inch color touchscreen, which boasts the ultimate reading experience, you can read all of the content you love. Nook lets you get free Wi-Fi connectivity, and enjoy the Read In Store feature to read NOOKbooks for free, and the More In Store program providing free, exclusive content and special promotions.
The Nook Color has a 7-inch, 1024-by-600-pixel LCD that can feature 16 million colors. The LCD screen is backlit, you can enjoy reading without a light. The screen is touch sensitive, use your finger to navigate menus and turn pages easily. The display show graphics and photos, and can play video.
The most significant is the battery life, it delivers up to 8 hours, it is considered pretty weak. After a day of heavy reading, it lasts about 3-4 hours on a single charge, the Nook Color can last longer by turning off Wi-Fi. If you read for more than a few hours a day, you have to do charging daily.
The screen is more reflective than E-Ink displays, you can read the Nook Color outside in broad daylight without much trouble by adjusting the brightness control.
The Nook Color measures 8.1 x 5.0 x 0.5 inches, and weighs 15.8 ounces (447 grams), which is bigger and heavier than the Kindle and the original Nook. However, it is light enough to comfortably hold the Nook Color in one hand for long periods, which is impossible for the iPad.
The Nook Color offers 8GB of memory, enough for about 6,000 books, newspapers, or magazines. With a microSD card, you can have the additional storage up to 32GB, which is more than enough.
The Nook Color features PDF and ePub files, and supports JPG, PNG, GIF and BMP files. You can also view Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. The tablet supports MP4 video, you can watch YouTube videos through the Web browser.
The Nook Color is more than an ebook reader, but less than a full-blown tablet, it gives color reading experience which is perfect for both books and magazines. If you do not expect full tablet functionality, the Nook Color makes a perfect reading companion if you want to see your books in full color.
