It may not be immediately obvious why the consumer demand is there for smaller tablets, as more and more manufacturers are rushing to shrink their flagship devices into something that will not stick out of your bag while carrying. The PD10 FreeLander 7-inch Andriod tablet PC is a budget and compact device that feels pleasantly comfortable to use, once you lay your hands on it you will see why. This seven-inch tablet is a real charm to the more compact device, this size is the perfect compromise between a smartphone and a tablet PC. Additionally, it is good to see that the specs have not been heavily reduced at an affordable price.
The PD10 FreeLander tablet PC has the latest Android 4.0.3 operating system, Wi-Fi and external 3G, allowing you to play apps and browse the web on it too. There is Android Market pre-loaded, which has a countless number of free and paid apps, including ES File Explorer, Google Search, Google Maps, Browser, Gallery, Clock, Market, Calculator, Calendar, Video, Email, Gmail and more. Playing around with all those thousands of apps is one of the joys of being an Android user. The Angry Birds actually plays pretty well on this device, thanks to support for 5-point multi-touch capabilities. It is lightweight and portable, the placticky feel is not really an issue for the device.
This tablet’s strengths are built around its primary functions as a device with web browsing, playing music, viewing video, playing fun games, and reading eBooks. A good range of video, music, and eBook formats is supported as well. The tablet serves well in this area, the size of the device makes the tablet a perfect eBook reader. Everything else it does in a very good way than other budget tablets you might have already got in your bag.
The seven-inch capacitive touchscreen delivers 800×480 pixels, which is not so good, but passable for a low-cost tablet. The processor runs quickly enough to cope with streaming videos or playing fun games, thanks to Telechips TCC8923, 1.2GHz, Cortex-A5 Dual Core processor. The Flash 11.1 is built in, this is a plus point, so you can enjoy a no-compromise, media-rich content on your tablet. The speaker is located on the back, however the audio quality is decent.
The tablet is relatively thin at less than 0.5-inch, and it is on the light side at 300g. You will like that all the ports and connectors are on one edge, the bottom short edge, with the exception of a right long edge mounted volume rocker and power button. So, on the bottom short edge you will find a TF card slot, mini HDMI port, micro USB port, and 3.5mm earphone port. There is a 0.3MP shooter on the front. It is not a big deal for the lack of a higher capability camera on the back of the device. Generally, users will take photos with a digital camera, not a tablet.
There is 8GB of built-in storage and that TF card slot can be used to expand this. The 1.2GHz dual-core processor is supported by 1GB of RAM, making the tablet cope well enough. The gravity sensor is supported. GPS works great.
The Wi-Fi connection is included, but no 3G built in. Luckily, this tablet supports external 3G dongle, it can add mobile data capability. However, the 3G dongle can add extra to the overall cost. The Wi-Fi connection is the most common, and one of the safest ways to connect your tablet to the internet. Although speeds are not necessarily as quick as what you can achieve through a 3G connection. The 2000mAh battery is rated for five or six hours.
Overall, the PD10 FreeLander 7-inch Andriod tablet PC is not a bad tablet for the price, it has Android Market, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, snappy processor, 8GB of internal storage, multiple ports, GPS, Flash support, and more. It is a great budget tablet PC for the price, if you want a compact device for entertainment solution, this product is worth considering.
