The Toshiba Excite AT275 came as quite a surprise as the tablet PC is relatively small and the seven-inch screen dominates the front of the unit. It is so compact that you could comfortably use the onscreen keyboard using both thumbs with your hands wrapped around the sides of the tablet. It does feel sturdy and well produced as a result. The device is ultra thin at just 0.30-inch, and it is on the light side at 380g. It is ultra portable and fits comfortably in one hand, Toshiba proudly boasts. All that is not bad for a tablet with 7.7-inch screen.

The rounded corners give the AT275 a stylish appearance, as does the silver backplate and the front-mounted 2MP camera is equipped for convenient video chat. There is also a 5MP camera on the rear that is capable of 720p video capture. Both cameras give an average picture quality. The backplate has a brushed aluminum look to it, however it is made of plastic. It does not look premium like most other higher-end tablet PCs, but it does not look cheap and gives you a high quality feel. The stereo speakers are positioned along the bottom edge of the device.

The whole thing looks neat, and there are two models to choose from between 16GB or 32GB of storage, and you can add more storage via microSD cards.

This 7.7-inch Android powered tablet PC features 10-finger multitouch responsiveness, and delivers 1280×800 pixels for vivid colours, high contrast and clarity. The 7.7-inch high-definition PixelPure AMOLED display delivers extremely rich colour gamut and contrast ratio for extraordinary sharpness and brightness over standard screens, which is ideal for graphics-rich activities. The crisper text is pretty nice to your eyes, colours are true and incredibly brilliant, and lifelike images have perfect contrast. It also boasts good viewing angles. On top of that, the screen is the robust Corning Gorilla Glass that resists damage from everyday use.

The Excite AT275 runs Android 4.0, with all the talk currently being about Ice Cream Sandwich. ICS does improve on some of the default applications. You can enjoy easy multitasking, rich notifications, customizable home screens, resizable widgets and deep interactivity and adds powerful new ways of communicating and sharing. The Google Play is installed on the Excite, so you can add apps and customise the tablet to however you want to use it. There is a huge range of apps (450,000 and counting), bringing you to your favourite books, music, movies, apps and games in an instant.

For business use, the QuickOffice is also on board for viewing documents, and you can upgrade it to QuickOffice Pro, meaning you can create, edit and distribute Word, Excel and PowerPoint presentations, as well as create PDFs of any documents you create.

Just as exciting is that the Toshiba Excite AT275 has a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, featuring the world’s first Super 4-PLUS-1 mobile quad-core processor which actually has five cores. The fifth battery-saver core kicks in when low-level tasks are being done, to help conserve battery power. But when you need them, such as when you are gaming or watching video, the quad-cores kick in. It handles your everyday apps so you can run longer. There is 1GB of RAM on board, so you can enjoy multitasking, web browsing, playing movies and games that really take advantage of the powerful processor.

The Excite 7.7 tablet provides a USB socket for PC connection (not charging), headphone jack, and microSD card slot as well as charging port. There is no HDMI port. Bluetooth is also available for easy connectivity with wireless devices like a mouse, keyboard or headset. It is a Wi-Fi only tablet PC. Bluetooth and GPS work just fine.

Like most of the seven-inch tablets, the battery life is quite good. You can get 10 hours of usage with Wi-Fi on, if you adjust screen brightness with Wi-Fi off, you can manage to get 12 hours of usage. This is ideal for watching movies on a long-haul flight.

Overall, The Toshiba Excite AT275 looks nice with impressive screen, and speedy performance. You will like its build quality, it is really thin and light. You will love the screen colours, the clarity is good with high resolution, making this tablet perfect for web browsing, reading, watching movies, playing games, and more. It is one of the nice seven-inch tablet PCs on the market.
