The Visual Land Prestige 7 offers a portable widescreen tablet PC with a lot of features at a competitive price. There is a 7-inch screen with 800×480 pixels on offer. The screen is sharp enough to make the Prestige 7 a decent mobile web browser. Browsing the web, playing games, and reading eBooks are an enjoyable experience on this seven-inch screen. Kindle and Comixology run smoothly. This size of screen is fine for doing email and other day-to-day activities.
The 7-inch Prestige 7 looks smarter than many of its rival tablets, with a selected range of vibrant colours. The tablet PC comes in a coloured plastic case, the coloured cases are available in black, blue, purple, read, and white. With multiple colours, you can choose your favourite colour that best suits your taste and style. This is a refreshing option, thanks to its attractive colourful design. The plastic case also has a nice feel on it.
The Prestige 7 is upgraded from its predecessor, as it runs the latest versatile Android 4.0 operating system at launch. The rest of specs and features remains unchanged like its previous model. The powerful Cortex A8 1.2GHz processor with 512MB RAM ought to be able to cope well enough. The usual range of ports and connectors features here including a standard headphone jack, a 1080p mini HDMI port, mini USB and DC ports, as well as a MicroSD card slot. Like their previous tablets, they have a mini HDMI out port. There is a front camera and a speaker on the rear, as well as built-in microphone. On top of that, the Adobe Flash Player 11.1 is supported, which is a plus point for optimal web access. Playing flash games and videos is a pleasure.
The official Android Market is not present. There is a fairly good alternative on board like GetJar, with access to thousands of apps and games available to download. The Prestige 7 is also compatible with Amazon Appstore.
There is an 8GB of built-in storage and that microSD card slot can be used to expand this. There is just one camera, a 1.3MP shooter on the front of the Prestige 7. You can make video calls on the go over Wi-Fi with Skype. Skype works brilliantly for video calling.
The capacitive touchscreen is very responsive to your fingers. Speaking of games, playing Fruit Ninja is smooth, majority of games run smoothly without a problem, thanks to the excellent multi-touch. Colours are bright and sharp, so viewing HD videos is great fun.
With a snappy 1.2GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, the Prestige 7 can play all modern games without breaking sweat. Like other tablet PCs, the battery life can supply about 4 hours of heavy usage. To improve battery life, you can lower screen brightness, and turn Wi-Fi off when you are not using it.
Overall, at this price point, most of what you would want is here. Compared to other budget tablets at the same size, the Visual Land Prestige 7 is at the top of the list in terms of specs, it definitely stands out from the crowd. This product is available in a wide variety of colours. You can feel free to pick your choice of colours. The only flaw is no Android Market. The Prestige 7 is definitely a great product and highly recommended. It is worth buying, and this is a low-cost tablet for early adopters.
Pros:
This touchscreen is responsive. The screen is bright and large enough to see things clearly.
It is ultra portable and ideal for travelling without having to carry a laptop with you.
This budget tablet offers 5 choices of colours including black, red, blue, purple, and white.
You can add a memory card via microSD card slot, if the 8GB of memory is not enough.
The on-screen keyboard works well, so the keyboard case is not necessary.
The build quality is solid and the plastic finish feels good in hand.
Equipped with a front facing camera for video chat via Skype.
The Wi-Fi set up is easy. It has built-in Wi-Fi, and supports 3G dongle.
The Prestige 7 can be a portable HD video player, it supports plenty of formats for video player, you can play anything you want without any issue, so get your memory card to load tons of your videos on it.
The battery life is decent, you can finish 1-2 movies before a recharge. The recharging time is really fast too. The standby mode can survive through a day.
Package includes the tablet, wall charger, mini USB cable, earphones and a manual.
There are multiple ports and connectors including mini USB (for charging, data transfer, connect to USB peripherals like USB flash drives), HDMI output (required a HDMI C type cable), charging port for your wall charger, 3.5 mm headphone jack, microphone, and microSD card slot. Some of high-end tablet PCs do not come with memory expansion and HDMI out.
You can charge your tablet via both the DC jack and the Micro USB port.
The device runs Android version 4.03 operating system.
There are pre-installed apps including YouTube, web browser, Documents To Go, Angry Birds and Skype.
You can also download Amazons Appstore, Amazon Kindle app, the Nook app, Netflix and some games. All the apps run smoothly.
Streaming videos is great. The single core processor is pretty powerful and the 512MB of RAM definitely helps make this unit speedy.
Cons:
Google Play is not included, but you can install Amazon Appstore and 1Mobile which can work perfectly, if you are not happy with GetJar app store.
The rear speaker is not loud enough, however the headphones are included.
Conclusion:
If you are looking for a budget tablet with good performance for reading, playing media files, web browsing and more, the Prestige 7 is your best choice.
Compared to Kindle Fire, the Prestige 7 has lower screen resolution (800×480), but both of them offers 8GB of storage, however the Prestige 7 sports a microSD card slot for memory expansion and its USB port also allows you to use USB flash drive for data transfer, while the Kindle Fire offers nothing for memory expansion.
